Our Co-Managing Partner, Frederick Hui and Co-Head of Litigation, Arbitration and Regulatory Practice Gilbert Leung have been invited by the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) to deliver a talk featuring on the Mainland Judgments in Civil and Commercial Matters (Reciprocal Enforcement) Ordinance (Cap. 645) that went effective on 29 January this year.
The primary aspect of the New Ordinance is the establishment of a registration system to facilitate the efficient enforcement of civil and commercial judgements from the Mainland in Hong Kong. This will greatly help reducing time and cost by diminishing the necessity for re-litigation and providing stronger safeguards for the interests of the involved parties.
The talk highlighted the challenges and difficulties in enforcing judgments under the New Ordinance, addressing the applications required under the New Ordinance. The speakers also pinpointed the key comparisons between the Old Ordinance and New Ordinance as well as provided valuable insights on asset preservation measures during the application, drawing from their wealth of experience in the litigation industry.
The event was a successful one ending with a Q&A section to interact with the CFA members.
